Sun TV moves Supreme Court over ED attachment of properties
The apex court said that it would pass appropriate orders once the 2G case comes up for consideration
New Delhi: Dayanidhi Maran-controlled Sun TV Network Ltd approached the Supreme Court on Thursday challenging an attachment of roughly ₹ 742 crore of assets by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
In June, the Madras high court had refused to entertain Sun TV’s petition regarding this attachment, saying that since it was under the 2G case, only the Supreme Court could hear it.
A bench headed by chief justice H.L. Dattu said that they would pass appropriate orders when the case comes up for consideration. On Wednesday, it did not pass any interim order staying the Madras HC order.
Sun TV contends that the case does not fall within the ambit of the 2G case.
ED’s attachment order from March is for illegal gain of ₹ 742.58 crore, for which it attached assets of Dayanidhi Maran, his brother Kalanithi Maran and Kalanithi’s wife Kaveri Kalanithi.
Sun TV had told Madras high court that the properties attached by the ED were not connected with the alleged offence and were purchased before this offence was committed.
