Mumbai: Macquarie SBI Infrastructure Investments 1 Ltd, the $2 billion infrastructure fund being raised jointly by Australia-based Macquaire Capital Group Ltd and State Bank of India on Thursday invested $200 million (Rs893.20 crore) in GMR Airports Holding Ltd, the subsidiary of GMR Infrastructure Ltd (GIL).

The fund subscribed to compulsorily convertible preference shares of the company. The

investment in the airport division by GMR comes after it raised money for its power division from PE (private equity) investors such as Temasek Holdings Advisors India Pvt Ltd, IDFC Private Equity Co Ltd, UTI Ventures and Arganaut Ventures.

This is the third private equity investment in the infrastructure sector being announced this week.

3i Group Plc, made two investments this week - $111 million in KMC Infatrech Ltd and $45 million Ind-Bharath Energy Ltd.
