SpiceJet applies for direct ATF import

Mumbai: Gurgaon-based low-fare carrier SpiceJet Ltd said on Monday it is working toward importing jet fuel directly, having filed its application for this with the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), a part of the commerce ministry.

SpiceJet chief executive officer Neil Mills said direct import of aviation fuel will lower operational costs, without giving details.

“We have applied before the DGFT for permission to import aviation fuel in India. SpiceJet is not just talking about opportunities but actively pursuing them," Mills said in a statement.

SpiceJet is the first airline in the country to seek approval for the import of aviation fuel.
