Noel Tata appointed Trent chairman

Noel Tata takes over from F.K. Kavarana who has been chairman of the company since 2006

Mumbai: Tata Group company Trent Ltd, which operates retail chains like Star Bazaar and Westside, on Monday announced the appointment of vice-chairman Noel Tata as chairman.

Tata takes over from F.K. Kavarana, who has been chairman since 2006. Kavarana stepped down from the company’s board of directors on 30 March and Tata takes on his new role immediately, Trent said in a statement to BSE.

On 21 March, Trent and British supermarket chain Tesco Plc signed an agreement to form a 50:50 joint venture for supermarket outlets. The foreign investment promotion board gave its approval to the proposal in December.

Tata has been associated with Trent since 1998. The company’s consolidated turnover rose from 8 crore in 1999 to 1,932 crore in 2013.
