Tata Motors to launch heavy duty buses
Mumbai: Tata Motors Ltd, the country’s largest automaker by sales revenue will launch a heavy duty bus in the inter-city premium luxury segment by March 2011, said Ravi Pisharody, president, commercial vehicles at Tata Motors.
The market for such buses is 100 units per month and dominated Swedish bus maker, Volvo Bus Corp and Merdeces-Benz With a horsepower of 256, Tata Motors already has a bus addressing that segment.
Pisharody, who was talking to the reporters on the sidelines of Tata Winger Platinum launch in Mumbai, said. “We have realised we need a bus with a higher horsepower for the segment ." The new offering will be more powerful with 285 horsepower, he added. In fiscal 2009-10, Tata Motors sold a total of 35000 buses.
