BackSpiceJet brings back Re1 sale to promote app
The airline claims there are more than 1 lakh one-way tickets available at `1 (excluding taxes and fees)

New Delhi: India’s second largest low-cost carrier SpiceJet Ltd on Tuesday announced a ₹ 1 airfare sale, its 10th flash sale in the past seven months. The sale is part of the company’s strategy to promote the airline’s new mobile app for Apple iOS and Android.
The airline claimed that there are more than 1 lakh one-way tickets available at ₹ 1 (excluding taxes and fees). But the latest offer is available only on select domestic direct (non-stop) flights, and are only purchasable on SpiceJet’s new mobile app.
There are more caveats.
A round-trip purchase is required, wherein the other leg of the journey will be at regular fare, the airline said in a statement.
“The three-day sale will open on 15 July from 10 am and go on till midnight 17 July 2015. The travel period covered in this sale is 15 July 2015 to 31 March 2016. Under this offer, only two round-trip tickets can be booked at the sale fare on a single mobile phone handset," the airline said.
SpiceJet recently unveiled its mobile app to book flights, manage bookings, check flight status and receive exclusive offers on mobile devices.
“Our Re 1 sale last year shook up the industry. It catalyzed a new approach to pricing in the industry, resulting in market growth at record levels, benefiting millions of travellers and stimulating the entire economy in the process," Sanjiv Kapoor, chief operating officer, SpiceJet, said.
“This year the Re 1 sale is back with a twist. It is based on round-trip purchase where one leg of the journey is at the regular fare. This sale is only available through our new mobile app for Apple iOS and Android," Kapoor said.
However, tickets bought under this ₹ 1 sale are non-refundable (statutory taxes are refundable) and non-changeable.
Last month, the airline launched hand baggage-only fares.
Kapoor claimed that these innovations have helped the airline script a turnaround by stimulating demand.
