New Delhi: Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL), a subsidiary of Japan’s Honda Motor Co. Ltd on Wednesday introduced its much-awaited seven-seater multipurpose vehicle (MPV) Mobilio, priced between 6.49 lakh and 10.86 lakh.

The diesel variant of the vehicle starts at 7.89 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom, Delhi.

Mobilio is developed by Honda Research and Development Centre in Bangkok. The car comes with a 1.5 litre i-DTEC diesel and 1.5L i-VTEC petrol engines.

Yoshiyuki Matsumoto, managing officer at Honda Motor, and representative of development, purchasing and production in Asia and Oceania, said the Mobilio was built on Honda’s global experience in the MPV segment.

“Drawing from this varied experience, Honda engineers have used the same technological know-how and design philosophy to develop the Mobilio," Matsumoto said. “ India remains one of our key markets in the region and I am confident that Mobilio will contribute significantly to HCIL growth in India," he added.

Honda Cars India will account for 25% of the Japanese car maker’s Asia Pacific sales target of 1.2 million units by March 2017, Matsumoto said.

Honda plans to raise the number of dealers in India to 230 by March 2015 from 179 now, said Hironori Kanayama, president and chief executive officer, Honda Cars India.
