Bengaluru: Mubble Networks Pvt. Ltd, a start-up that helps smartphone users track their spending on calls, SMSes and mobile data, has raised an undisclosed amount in a Series A funding round from venture capital firm Accel Partners to scale its business.

The announcement comes nearly a month after Nandan Nilekani, Infosys co-founder, invested in the start-up to help it expand its technology team.

“The app ecosystem in India is evolving rapidly; we think Mubble’s ‘data-guard’ will enable the new-gen smartphone users to navigate this ecosystem predictably. Data is the new frontier, and we arm our users to make informed choices about how they use data," Subrata Mitra, partner, Accel Partners, said in a statement on Monday.

The company which was founded in 2013 by Ashwin Ramaswamy (IIT Madras, IIM Bangalore), Pranav Jha (IIT Bombay) and Raghvendra Varma (IIT-BHU) said that the app, which works offline, has been downloaded over a half million times.

Mubble uses an on-device text analytics engine to give users access to their usage information across multiple SIM cards.

Users can see their main and data balances, how much is being charged for every call, know all call rates currently active on their SIM, view daily usage record of mobile data, track mobile data consumption and monitor automatic use of mobile data.

Mubble reads the automatic pop-ups that give out balance details each time an SMS or call is made and automatically updates these details.

It reduces the need to send data out of smartphones to central servers, which the company says makes it bandwidth-conserving and privacy friendly.

“Accel Partners share our vision of enabling smartphone adopters in India make a fear-free entry into the digital world, and we are delighted to partner with them. We will use the funds to attract the best tech talent, and build a world class product, designed for the masses of India," said Ramaswamy, chief executive officer of Mubble.

The app, currently available only for Android, is available in multiple Indian languages.
