New Delhi: The Central government on Friday told the Delhi high court that it had decided to allow radio channel Red FM to migrate to phase III licences for radiowaves.
Red FM is a unit of Digital Radio Broadcasting, a part of Kalanithi Maran-promoted Sun TV Group.
The information and broadcasting ministry had rejected the FM’s application to participate in the phase III licence auction, saying it had not received a security clearance from the home ministry. The FM channel in July approached the court, which quashed the government order.
In January, the Supreme Court rejected an appeal filed by the Centre against allowing Red FM to continue broadcasting. At the time, the court said, “Your provision is limited to...the company as well as the directors have to be security-cleared," the court said.
“Is there any misuse (of the spectrum/radio channel) at any stage? It’s an entertainment channel. What security threat does it pose?"
