Mumbai: Press Play Pvt. Ltd, a Delhi-based travel entertainment start-up said on Tuesday that it has raised an early stage funding worth $2.2 million from Sequoia Capital and angel investors.

The company, which had raised angel investments of $500,000 in August 2014, is in talks to raise a Series A round of funding by the end of this month.

The company is looking to use the funds to improve services, work on new products and hire more people.

Pressplay, which was launched in 2013 with a seed capital of $1 million, initially provided tablets to long-distance bus passengers for a cost of 100. It has since changed the model. “That was a proof of concept and now after working hard on technology and our product, we have made the transition to the user’s smartphone. All our content is now consumed on the user’s own device," said Anand Sinha in an email.

Targetting the mobile population that watches television serials and movies on smartphone, Star India launched an entertainment app called Hotstar in February.

Start-up Banyanpod Technologies Pvt. Ltd that owns and operates allows users to download movies over a Wi-Fi network at airports, charing 100 per movie.
