Kolkata: Leading global lodging company Marriott International Inc. is looking to add 85 more properties in India over the next 3-5 years.
The US-based hotel chain, which completed acquisition of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. in September this year, now has a total of 80 properties with around 18,000 rooms in the country, surpassing the Tata Group-promoted Taj Group of Hotels which has around 16,640 rooms in the country.
By December, Marriott plans to add five more hotels under its Fairfield Inn & Suites and W brands in Indore, Amritsar, Belgaum in Karnataka, Jaisalmer and Goa.
According to the group’s chief operations officer of Asia Pacific (excluding Greater China) Rajeev Menon, the company plans to reach out to 33 cities over the next 3-5 years from 19 cities at present.
“There is a strong double digit growth in the Indian market, with not just metros but secondary and tertiary cities playing an important role towards this growth," Menon said.
