Chennai: Auto parts firm Sundram Fasteners has appointed Tata group veteran B. Muthuraman as an independent director on its board for five years from 16 April, 2015. The Chennai-based company informed the BSE on Friday that it has got shareholders’ approval for this move.

Muthuraman had a long association with the Tata Group. He joined Tata Steel in 1966 and was made executive director in 2000, managing director in 2001 and non-executive vice chairman in 2009. He has also been the chairman of Tata International Ltd, Tata Africa Holdings Ltd and has been on the Board of Tata Industries Ltd and Strategic Energy Systems Pvt Ltd.

Sundram Fasteners share closed at 185.40, down by 3.96% as the benchmark Sensex fell by 0.78% to 28,442.10 points.
