Bengaluru: Bengaluru-based travel and holiday information portal HolidayIQ has acquired software developer SourceN’s travel mobile development team in an attempt to boost its mobile capabilities.
The acquisition comes at a time when Indian travellers are increasingly using their smartphones for everything from planning their vacations to booking tickets.
Around five million Indian travellers plan their vacations on HolidayIQ.com every month and about two-thirds of that activity happens through mobile devices, according to the company backed by Tiger Global and Accel Partners. HolidayIQ declined to share the financial terms of the deal.
“We want the new team to focus on strengthening our iOS app. But the larger strategic agenda is to enable more features in both Android and iOS app to plan travel on the go, because more and more people are using mobile for travel planning during the trip itself which is known as in-trip paradigm in the industry," said Hari Nair, founder and CEO of HolidayIQ.
A seven member team will join the company from SourceN, which has offices in Silicon Valley and Bengaluru. SourceN has been building and designing mobile applications for iOS, Android and Windows, and has worked with global firms such as Apple Inc., Dell Inc., Hewlett Packard Co., Intel Corp. and SAP SE.
Nair said HolidayIQ will dedicate its investments for the next one year to develop mobile travel planning technologies, especially for leisure travel.
