Ratan Tata joins IDG Ventures India as senior advisor

Mumbai: IDG Ventures India Advisors, a technology-focused venture capital firm, on Wednesday said Ratan Tata, chairman emeritus of Tata Sons Ltd, has joined the company’s advisory board as a senior advisor.
IDG Ventures India, a part of IDG Ventures, a global network of technology venture funds with over $6 billion under management, has invested in Indian companies such as Flipkart, Myntra, Yatra, Newgen, FirstCry, Vserv, Manthan, Lenskart, Adadyn, Zivame, Hiree and NestAway.
“Mr Tata is an icon when it comes to business leadership in new-age India. His rich experience in building businesses and expanding globally from India is of immense value to our portfolio companies," said Sudhir Sethi, founder and chairman of IDG Ventures India Advisors, in a press statement.

Tata has invested in close to a dozen Indian as well as international start-ups in the last one year.
This month, Tata made a personal investment in Holachef, an online marketplace for chefs. The amount was not disclosed.
In July, he participated in a $10.2 million round of funding for online doctor appointments’ booking site Lybrate Inc. In June, he invested in taxi aggregator Ola and joined the advisory board of Jungle Ventures. He has previously invested in Snapdeal, Paytm, Urban Ladder and Bluestone.
