Vedanta’s bauxite case final hearing in April
New Delhi: The Supreme Court will likely have a final hearing of Vedanta group’s bauxite mining case in Orissa’s Niyamgiri Hills on 9 April, a lawyer connected with the case said on Monday.
K.K. Venugopal, a lawyer representing OMC, said the company has invested ₹ 4,000 crore at the mining area and that the matter needed to be resolved fast.
The case is significant for the London-listed Vedanta group because much of its growth hinges upon how fast it can grow the aluminium business in India for which its refinery and smelter, set up with big investments in Orissa, must have a steady feed of bauxite.
