New Delhi: Having established a presence in neighbourhood stores and supermarkets, Yoga guru Baba Ramdev is eyeing shelf space at chemist shops. Products of Ramdev’s Patanjali Ayurved Ltd will now be sold across 2,200 outlets owned by Apollo Pharmacy, part of healthcare chain Apollo Hospitals.

Mumbai-based Pittie Group, which is the nationwide distributor for Patanjali products, has entered into a distribution arrangement with Apollo Pharmacy, according to a joint statement by Pittie Group and Apollo Pharmacy, issued on Friday. Pittie also distributes Patanjali products in general trade across the western parts of India.

“Since Apollo Pharmacy has the largest branded pharmacy network, we will be able to enhance the reach of Patanjali… Over the next few months, we also plan to work with several more such key players to help Patanjali brand grow and to strengthen our distribution network," said Aditya Pittie, chief executive of the Pittie Group.

“It has been our standing commitment to ensure that the widest and most comprehensive range of health products is made available for the wellbeing of our consumers. In keeping with this philosophy, the partnership between Apollo and Patanjali is a natural fit," an Apollo Pharmacy spokesperson said in a statement.

Ramdev had, in April 2015, entered into a marketing arrangement with Kishore Biyani-led Future Retail Ltd for retailing of Patanjali products across all Future Retail outlets in 243 cities in India. The outlets include 203 Big Bazaar and Easyday hypermarkets, 197 Food Bazaar and Easyday supermarkets and most of the 171 other retail stores comprising Home Town, eZone, FBB and Foodhall brands.

Patanjali Ayurved had also teamed up with Mukesh Ambani’s retail chain Reliance Fresh earlier. On 26 April, Ramdev had said in a press conference that Patanjali will cross 10,000 crore in revenue by March 2017. Its revenue stood at around 5,000 crore for the year ended 31 March 2016. It has grown from 446 crore in 2011-12, to 2,006 crore in 2014-15, according to the company.

Over the next year, Patanjali will increase its retail presence through 4,000 distributors, more than 10,000 company-owned outlets, 100 Patanjali branded stores, and supermarkets, the company said in a statement.
