Saudi railway hires Rites to operate new line

Riyadh: Saudi Arabian Railway has hired Rites Ltd, the state-owned logistics and infrastructure unit of Indian Railways, to operate a line that will transport minerals to an industrial complex in Jubail on the Persian Gulf.

The contact valued at $74.1 million (around Rs336 crore) will last until the end of 2013, the ‘Saudi Press Agency’ said on Saturday, citing Romaih bin Muhammad al-Romaih, deputy chief executive officer of the Saudi rail company.

The 1,486km line will open at the end of this year.
