New Delhi: Consumer goods company Emami Ltd on Wednesday reported a 16% increase in net profit at Rs93 crore for the quarter ended 30 September, powered by higher sales.

Net sales in the fiscal second quarter rose 20.4% to Rs490 crore, the Kolkata-based maker of Navratna hair oil and Fair and Handsome cream said in a statement.

Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (Ebitda), an indicator of operating profitability, rose 29.6% to Rs113 crore during the quarter.

Emami said new launches such as HE deodorant, Fair and Handsome Instant Fairness Facewash and Zandu Balm Ultra Power were key contributors to the growth.

“Adoption of correctional measures, some definite consolidation in our international business and robust performance by all our power brands led to this robust growth. In domestic market, both modern and general trade have continued to respond to positive consumer sentiments," said Mohan Goenka, director, Emami in the statement.

Emami also plans to launch new products in near future from the Zandu stable and said it will continue to invest in growing its existing portfolio, said Harsha Agarwal, director.
