Kolkata Metro to allow firms to take ‘ownership’ of stations
Under a scheme, Kolkata Metro will allow companies to add their names to the stations and use the platforms for branding activities
Kolkata: In a bid to cut losses, Kolkata Metro will allow companies to take “ownership" of all 24 stations along its 27-km route.
Under a scheme titled Own Your Station, Kolkata Metro will allow companies to add their names to the stations and use the platforms for branding activities, general manager M.C. Chauhan said at a Confederation of Indian Industry conference in Kolkata on Thursday.
Because of remunerative tariff—the shortest ride costs Rs5—Kolkata Metro incurs losses and is looking to scale up revenue from sources such as advertisements.
For every rupee earned, Kolkata Metro spends Rs2.65. Chauhan said Kolkata Metro will soon seek expressions of interest for its Own Your Station scheme.
