Telugu movie to see simultaneous release on DTH and theatres
Airtel Digital TV on Thursday said it will begin showing 'Minukumanna Minugurulu' from Fridaythe same day as its release in cinemas
Telugu movie Minukumanna Minugurulu (Fireflies) will be the first Indian film to be released simultaneously on direct-to-home (DTH) and in cinemas.
A year ago Tamil actor and director Kamal Haasan had to scrap a plan to release his movie Vishwaroopam on DTH first and in cinemas a day later, after exhibitors threatened to boycott the controversial film.
Airtel Digital TV, the DTH service arm of telecom operator Bharti Airtel Ltd, on Thursday said it will begin showing Minukumanna Minugurulu from Friday—the same day as its release in cinemas.
The film, which portrays the lives of 40 visually impaired and orphaned children, was shown at the 18th International Children’s Film Festival in India in November, and has been selected for six other international film festivals.
