LinkedIn launched university pages with the aim of connecting higher educational institutes with students, alumni, parents

Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) will be the first Indian school to own a page on LinkedIn university pages.

LinkedIn launched university pages on Tuesday with the aim of connecting higher educational institutes with prospective students, alumni and parents, the social networking company said in a statement.

“The product tailored for higher education will enable higher education institutions to build a brand and community on LinkedIn and directly engage with prospective and current students, alumni and parents," the statement said. “Through the university pages students and parents will have ready access to insights from the career outcomes of millions of professionals on LinkedIn. They will also be able to leverage the valuable tools to get a head start on building their professional network and be empowered to make informed choices about their campus life to career."

Globally, around 200 universities are on university pages, including Insead, New York University, University of California San Diego, Fundação Getúlio Vargas,University of Michigan, Villanova, Rochester Institute of Technology and University of Illinois, said Christina Allen, director, product management at LinkedIn, on her blog on LinkedIn. “Over the next few weeks, thousands more schools will be given access to their university pages," she added.

The company also said that as a part of this roll out, LinkedIn will now also be available to members who are 13 years of age and older depending on the regions. “We believe university pages will be especially valuable for students making their first, big decision about where to attend college," said Allen. “Therefore, beginning 12 September, we will be making LinkedIn available to high school students, who can use LinkedIn to explore schools worldwide, greatly expand their understanding of the careers available, and get a head start on building a network of family and friends to help guide them at every milestone."

LinkedIn was thus far available only to people 18 years and above.
