Mindshare sparkles at Emvies 2009 media awards

Emvies 2009, the 9th All India media excellence awards held by Ad Club Bombay in Mumbai on 21 August, saw GroupM India Pvt. Ltd’s media agency Mindshare sweep the “Best media agency of the year" award with a grand total of 100 points.

Maxus, another GroupM media agency came second with 70 points. Madison Group bagged third place with a tally of 65 points. The Grand Emvie, equivalent to the best of show, went to Mudra Max, the media arm of Mudra Group. The RAM award for radio innovation went to Maxus. The People’s Choice award for best case study presentation went to Lodestar Universal Pvt. Ltd and Mindshare.

Emvies rewards both path-breaking media ideas and media effectiveness. A total of 451 entries were received this year from media agencies nationally, out of which the jury shortlisted 60. There were 14 award categories, including best media innovations in television, press, radio, direct marketing, etc., best media strategy for consumer products and consumer durables, best media research and best integrated campaign.

R. Gowthaman, leader, Mindshare (GroupM India Pvt. Ltd) was not very impressed with the overall calibre of entries this year. “A lot of them are what you call wallpaper ideas. Everybody’s doing much the same thing as they did last year and tried and tested things like advertiser funded programming. There’s too much emphasis on innovation and not enough weightage given to results in the market place.’’ Punitha Arumugam , group CEO, Madison Group who was on the jury of Emvies 2009 said there was a lot of “okay" work from agencies this year. “Most of the entries were really well written and presented. It could be a really small idea but packaged larger than life".
