Mumbai: flyDEL. That is the new mobile app for Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport launched on Saturday.

The app aims to serve the passengers by providing real-time flight information and access to all passengers’ facilities available at the airport among others.

The app is available for both Android as well as iOS based devices, covering majority smart phone users in the country.

The Delhi airport is run by GMR Group’s Delhi International Airport (P) Ltd.

The app offerings are currently listed under various categories; flights, services, navigation, shopping, food and beverages.

‘Flights’ information pertains to allocation of baggage belts, check-in rows and boarding gates.

Under ‘services’ facilities such as baggage, drinking water, ATMs, money exchange, medical needs, immigration processes, car parking, recreation and applicable tariffs are listed.

The app also gives detailed info for passengers requiring special needs assistance for Persons with Restricted Mobility (PRM), lost & found, traveling with kids, left luggage, valet parking.

It also provides details on where to eat, shop and relax at the airport.

“The smart and tech savvy travelers as well as the first time users can make the best use of the wide range of facilities available at the airport by using the app. The app is based on a very specific technology that takes care of the real needs of the various categories of fliers to make their journey a pleasant and hassle free affair," said I Prabhakara Rao, chief executive officer at Delhi International Airport Ltd.

The users can download the app from iTunes or Android app store and log in using various social media options like Facebook, Twitter and Google+.

DIAL has plans to further enhance the app by making it more interactive and dynamic for users by adding features like cab and hotel bookings, latest shopping offers at the airport and interactive 3D navigation.

Mumbai International Airport Ltd, that runs Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport is also in the process of designing a new app for the airport.

Travellers are already using an app called Trip38 which is helping them to manage their itinerary.

Trip38 help business travellers by collating all travel information and emails in one place, giving updates through alerts, notifying of when to check in, doling out details of baggage allowance, flight timings and the terminal.

Once the traveller reaches the destination, it turns into a local guide and tells what all to see, where to go, what to eat and shop, and also recommends places based on his or her social network preferences.

Currently, it offers information on 30,000 cities, 350,000 hotels, the top 200 airports, the top 50 airlines, and 30,000 Indian restaurants outside India in 150 countries.
