Harbhajan back for Bangladesh test; Virat Kohli named Test captain
Singh last featured for India two years ago against Australia in Hyderabad
Off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has been recalled to the India squad for the one-off Test against Bangladesh. Singh last featured for India two years ago against Australia in Hyderabad. He replaces left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja.
The announcement came after a selection committee meeting in Mumbai on Wednesday, where the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squad for Bangladesh tour. No seniors were rested for the tour, which begins on 10 June.
The selection committee also confirmed Virat Kohli as India’s captain in Tests, while Mahendra Singh Dhoni will continue to lead the One Day side.
Besides Harbhajan, there was also a call-up for leg-spinner Karn Sharma. After Dhoni’s retirement from Test cricket late last year, Wriddhiman Saha is set to take over wicke-tkeeping duties. Cheteshwar Pujara, currently playing for Yorkshire in the County Championship in England, returns for the tour.
The one-day selection is largely unchanged from the squad that played the World Cup earlier this year in Australia and New Zealand. Pacer Mohammad Shami, who missed the Indian Premier League (IPL) because of a knee injury, was ruled out of the tour.
