New Delhi: India’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India Ltd rolled out premium hatchback Baleno in India on Monday. The company aims to export its made-in-India car to over 100 countries, including a few in Europe.

India is the first market to get the car, which is priced between R4.99 lakh and R 8.11 lakh. “Baleno will be introduced in Europe in spring next year," Maruti’s managing director and chief executive Kenichi Ayukawa said at a press conference.

“With Baleno, we are changing our philosophy to make in India and sell global," he added.

The car will compete against Hyundai Motor India Ltd’s i20 and Honda Cars India Ltd’s Jazz. It will be sold under the Nexa-branded showrooms, which Maruti has opened in 80 cities so far and plans in over 20 more by the end of the year.

“With the festive season around, it is the right time to launch Baleno. Every product that we launch is aimed towards achieving 2 million (annual car) sales by 2020," Ayukawa said.
