Here's a look at 10 other films that Bollywood gave us for Eid which, needless to say, Salman Khan has come to dominate over the years
New Delhi: As is the Bollywood tradition, Salman Khan comes out with his new release Sultan for Eid this week. Here’s a look at 10 other films that the Hindi film industry gave us for the festival which, needless to say, the 50-year-old actor has come to dominate over the years.
1. Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015): Last year, Salman Khan played a Hanuman devotee who takes a mute Pakistani child back to her parents in the blockbuster drama directed by Kabir Khan. The film, also co-produced by the actor, featured Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Kareena Kapoor Khan and child actor Harshaali Malhotra and made more than ₹ 320 crore in India alone.
2. Kick (2014): Long-time producer Sajid Nadiadwala made his directorial debut with the action film starring Salman Khan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Randeep Hooda and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Khan reprised his Robinhood character in the film that earned about ₹ 232 crore at the box office.
3. Chennai Express (2013): Actors Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone had a chance to take over the grand festive season for once with the Rohit Shetty-directed comedy. The film made about ₹ 227 crore in box office collections.
4. Ek Tha Tiger (2012): Kabir Khan’s romantic action film marked Salman Khan’s first collaboration with Yash Raj Films. The film that opened to mixed reviews earned more than ₹ 198 crore in box office collections.
5. Bodyguard (2011): Starring Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan, the film was a remake of director Siddiqui’s Malayalam film of the same name. The film that went on to become the highest opening day grosser as well as the biggest grosser ever for a single day up until then made more than ₹ 148 crore at the box office.
6. Dabangg (2010): The action film directed by Abhinav Kashyap established Salman Khan as the ultimate larger-than-life hero. Produced by brother Arbaaz Khan, it made close to ₹ 140 crore at the box office.
7. Wanted (2009): The official remake of Telugu hit Pokiri, the Prabhu Deva-directed film officially marks the beginning of Salman Khan’s golden run at the box office. Also starring Ayesha Takia, it made around ₹ 20 crore at the box office.
8. Kidnap (2008): The crime thriller film starring Sanjay Dutt, Imran Khan and Minissha Lamba was directed by Sanjay Gadhvi of Dhoom fame. It made box office collections of more than ₹ 18 crore.
9. Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007): Before Salman Khan could take over, Akshay Kumar scored an Eid hit with the Priyadarshan-directed comedy horror. The official remake of the 1993 Malayalam film, Manichitrathazhu, it made close to ₹ 25 crore in box office collections.
10. Laaga Chunari Mein Daag – Journey Of A Woman (2007): Released alongside Kumar’s hit was the Rani Mukerji-starrer directed by Pradeep Sarkar. It made about ₹ 9 crore at the box office.
