British Pathé is the name of the archive of Pathé News, the 20th century producer of newsreels, cine magazines and documentaries. The pioneer of moving pictures in the silent era, Charles Pathé founded Pathé News in 1910, and it ran in the UK till 1970.

The newsreels were shown in cinemas and initially ran for just four minutes. With time they got longer and more comprehensive, and in fact, during World War I, they competed with newspapers for their content.
