Kalmadi seeks PM’s intervention in row
New Delhi: The heads of national sporting federations on Wednesday approached Prime Minister Manmohan Singh with a letter of support from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and sought his intervention to stop the sports ministry from limiting their tenures.
“The PM told us that he will look into the matter and get back to us," said Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president Suresh Kalmadi, after the meeting in the PM’s Office at Parliament.
New regulations announced by the sports ministry, headed by M.S. Gill, on Sunday barred heads of national sports bodies from occupying the top posts for more than 12 years, with or without a break.
