JWT to pick up majority stake in Mindset Advertising
Mumbai: Global advertising network JWT, part of WPP Plc, is acquiring a majority stake in Mindset Advertising Private Ltd, the Hyderabad-based agency that’s an associate of the company taking control of it.
Colvyn Harris, chief executive of JWT India, said that some acquisitions are made with an eye toward future potential.
“Hyderabad figures as one of the most promising cities in JWT’s growth plans and the integration of Mindset into our global operations gives clients in the city access to the best of what JWT has to offer worldwide," Harris said. “It also gives them access to the services of our family of specialist companies in various communications-related fields, including media planning and buying, digital communications, activation, public relations and market research."
JWT has worked closely with Mindset on several clients including Bharti Airtel, he said. Buying a stake was a natural extension, he said.
Harris said JWT India will consider more acquisitions in the specialized communications space -- digital design etc.
“We are open to whatever will enhance our current offering. We are always on the lookout for vision, skill capabilities and talent," Harris said. “We had acquired Encompass earlier."
Santha John, who founded the agency will head the JWT Hyderabad operation. Mindset’s clients include information technology, education, health-care and infrastructure companies.
“We have been reputed to be ‘the best advertising brains in Hyderabad, under one roof’ and that, of course, will continue with our leadership team of Ram Gedela, chief executive officer, Anvar Alikhan, director , creative, and Mark Samuel, AVP and senior creative director, firmly in place," John said. “With full access to JWT’s global resources, we now look forward to being able to offer our clients in Hyderabad an even higher level of service."
Arvind Sharma, chairman, Leo Burnett, said that it’s a good addition to JWT India in terms of people but was a huge question mark on the potential of Hyderabad as a market.
Andhra Pradesh is currently in the grip of an agitation for the creation of a separate Telangana state and the eventual status of Hyderabad isn’t clear yet.
