New Delhi: It was all about vintage and ethnic influences on the ramp at the second day of Wills India Fashion Week with designers turning on the old world charm with their collections.

Collections mostly comprised a fusion of the Indian and western with traditional embroidery done on fabrics like georgette, chiffon, voile and jersey.

Kavita Bhartia’s range was one such, with antique embroidery, dori work and tribal influences on flowy dresses, short skirts, tunics and sarees.

“It is all about being influenced from the past, so you see a lot of antique embroidery and tribal inspired work. The colour palette will appeal to everyone and the outfits are both Indian and Western for buyers across borders," said Kavita.

Tribal influences were also characteristic of Ashima-Leena’s collection, whose brightly coloured range was a journey “back to the roots".

“Our collection is inspired by tribes from all over the world, mostly central Asia," said Ashima.

Designer duo Ankur and Priyanka Modi had a vintage inspired collection, with a fusion of traditional and modern techniques.

“Our collection shows a modern take on the vintage influences. Its named the Portebello Affair, after a street in London which sells vintage stuff," said Priyanka.

Dolly J also worked on the vintage charm, with a collection celebrating the spirit of Indian women. The silhouettes were a fusion of Indian and Western styles, with the use of fabrics like velvet and georgette.

The Victorian courts were brought to life on stage by designer Preeti Chandra with a collection comprising of voluminous skirts, cigarette pants, one-shoulder dresses and gowns with sweeping trails.

Designer Joy Mitra, who had Sharmila Tagore as the showstopper, showed a Malgudi Days inspired collection, invoking nostalgia on the ramp.
