I&B ministry plans to launch SMS campaign to inform cable TV users

SMS campaign to inform cable TV subscribers about the need to fill consumer application forms

New Delhi: The ministry of information and broadcasting plans to launch an SMS campaign to inform cable TV subscribers in cities where digitization is being rolled out about the need to fill consumer application forms.

This will allow consumers to choose the channels they want to subscribe to and pay only for those.

Broadcasters are already running titles on TV channels to inform the public about the importance of filling these forms. Multi service operators (MSOs) are also giving messages on their local TV channels regarding the same.

Twenty-two cities have achieved 100% digitization and 14 other cities have shown considerable progress, as per the data received from multi-system and direct-to-home operators. In Coimbatore and Vishakhapatanam, however, less than 50% digitization has been achieved.

The government has mandated television-viewing homes in several cities to shift from analog to digital addressable systems in phases.
