ICAI IPC 2017 result declared, Gaurav Sarawagi is topper

ICAI declares the result of the Integrated Professional Competitive examination or IPC at icai.nic.in. Only 9.84% of 6,562 candidates passed the exam

New Delhi: The Institute of Chartered Accountants in India (ICAI) declared the results of the Integrated Professional Competitive examination (IPC) today at icai.nic.in

The IPC exam has two groups comprising of a total of seven subjects and candidates must appear for both groups. While 66,680 students appeared for the group I papers, only 9.84% of 6562 candidates passed the exam. For group II, 65,453 candidates appeared while 17.48% passed the exam.

Nearly 11,550 candidates – 23.12% of the 49967 who appeared for both the groups – passed.

The IPC is the second of the three levels of exams that must be cleared in order to pursue chartered accountancy.

Each paper carries 100 marks and one must score 40% in each subject and 50% aggregate in each group. Those appearing for both groups together get an advantage in passing the exam, if they collectively score 50% in both groups, even if they fail to obtain an individual aggregate of 50% in the two groups separately.

The topper, Gaurav Sarawagi from Churu, scored 80.71%. “This was my first attempt at the IPC exam and I intend to follow this up with an articleship," said Sarawagi. As someone who prepared for the exam over an year’s time, Sarawagi suggests that an eight-hour schedule of self-study is essential for doing well in this exam.

The second ranker, Ronak Rajendra Jain from Nashik scored 80.14% while the third ranker Hasan Mohammad Ibrahim Iqbal Usama of Nagpur scored 80%.
