Mumbai: Le Travenues Technology Pvt. Ltd, which runs ixigo.com, has rolled out a new app discovery platform that lets brands reach out to train travellers contextually and helps them discover apps and relevant deals.
Over 20 brands including Amazon.com Inc., Flipkart.com, Paytm (run by One97 Communications Ltd), Freecharge (payments unit of e-commerce marketplace Snapdeal, run by Jasper Infotech Pvt. Ltd), PepperTap, DineOut, BlaBlaCar, UrbanClap, Cleartrip Pvt. Ltd, MakeMyTrip (India) Pvt. Ltd, SpiceJet Ltd, TravelKhana.com and Twigly have signed up for ixigo’s app discovery platform to market their apps and deals to Indian train travellers.
“Over 70 lakh users in India have installed the ixigo trains app, generating a monthly active user base of close to 18 lakh, and a daily active user base of over 3 lakh, spread across 200-plus locations in India," ixigo said in a statement.
ixigo chief executive officer and co-founder Aloke Bajpai said the company has delivered over 10 million daily impressions, 1,200-plus daily app installs and 200-plus daily transactions cumulated across partners in just the first week of launch.
“Our goal is to help travellers discover high quality apps contextually. Also, for partners, it’s a great marketing channel with amazing targeting possibilities. They are helping our travellers recharge on the go, book a meal for their journey, and to discover content, services and products that they may want to order during, before or after their journey. We are now evaluating more partnerships in the news, music and entertainment categories," Bajpai said.
The ixigo trains app helps travellers find train routes, check train running status, get coach positions, platform numbers, real-time seat availability and PNR predictions for waitlisted bookings.
It is currently available only on Android.
Referring to the response received by ixigo’s platform, Pushpinder Singh, co-founder and chief executive officer at TravelKhana, said the ixigo trains app is a marketing channel for TravelKhana to reach a relevant and engaged audience.
“We have a strong mutually-beneficial partnership with ixigo that allows travellers to contextually discover our brand and get affordable ride-sharing to their destination as an alternative," said Raghav Gupta, country head, India for BlaBlaCar.
ixigo.com has launched instant booking facility—“ixibook", and has collaborated with online travel agency Cleartrip Pvt. Ltd and OYO Rooms (Oravel Stays Pvt. Ltd) as its launch partners for flights and hotels, respectively.
Most recently, stiff competition from online travel agencies and the disruptive travel start-ups have forced the world’s largest travel review portal TripAdvisor to turn itself into a site that can help in direct hotel booking and offer reviews.
Launched in 2007 in Gurgaon by Bajpai and Rajnish Kumar, ixigo aggregates and compares real-time travel information, prices and availability for flights, trains, buses, cabs, hotels, packages and destinations. ixigo’s investors include SAIF Partners, MakeMyTrip and Micromax Informatics Ltd.
