The death of a loved one is never easy. No matter how hard you try to cope with the loss, there remains a void that is difficult to fill.

One of the healthiest ways to tackle such grief is to surround yourself with happy memories—memories of the person that you can look back on and smile. You could also find solace in the beautiful life lessons and values left by the person you’ve lost.

While death leaves behind heartache, love leaves a memory that no one can steal. Life goes on, and love lives on. Your loved ones are still there with you because of the things they taught you, because of the moments that they spent with you. After all, when you live the values and implement the life lessons your loved ones have taught you, you bring them back to life. You help celebrate their lives in the most magical way possible.

As novelist Carson McCullers once said, “How can the dead be truly dead when they still live in the souls of those who are left behind?"

Makes sense, right?

Then, perhaps, you can share your story and that of your beloved by taking part in the Memory Project powered by HDFC Life. This initiative explores the lives of people who are dealing with the deaths of their near and dear ones—through objects or fond memories associated with the departed.

On April 28, an event was organized in Mumbai that brought together all those who had been a part of the first edition of the project. Through music, poetry, and a letter-writing activity, the participants remembered their loved ones who had passed away.

The leading insurer returns with the second edition whose theme is ‘Memories through Values’. Some of the people connected with the Memory Project this time around are musician Aarifah Rebello, comedian Neville Shah, rapper Prabhdeep Singh, actor Divya Dutta, and writer Ankita Chawla. Each of them reminisces about the special moments they’ve spent with their departed loved ones, and reveals the memories that they’ve carried forward.

HDFC Life is organizing an event at the British Council in New Delhi on September 22. To participate in the event, or to be a part of the Memory Project, please click here.
