Mahindra to redefine high-end SUV segment with Alturas G4
The Mahindra Alturas G4 SUV offers a best of both worldsperformance and speed, along with design and safety
Fuelling the SUV fever, auto giant Mahindra’s newest launch, the Alturas G4, promises all the features of a high-end SUV with unmatched luxury and uncompromised safety. Alturas means height or pinnacle, and the new car sure boasts of living up to its name.
The Alturas G4 measures 4,850 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width, and 1,845 mm in height. It comes in two variants—2WD for normal running and a 4WD that can take the car to any off-roading terrain.
The design is bold and imposing with 18” diamond cut alloy wheels, HID headlamps with LED DRLs, LED Fog lamps and tail lamps, chrome window surrounds, and silver and black roof rails,
The Alturas G4 is available in 5 colours—Pearl White, D Sat Silver, Lakeside Brown, Napoli Black, and Regal Blue.
The interiors have been elegantly done up in quilted Nappa leather in black and tan tones. The front seats are ventilated, a first for this category; and the driver’s seat comes with a memory profile to set your preferred position, in addition to having an electronically controlled 8-way adjustment, thereby providing greater driving comfort. The seats, in fact, won a prize at the Ergonomic Design Awards 2017 in Korea.
Parking made easy
For easy manoeuvrability, the SUV is fitted with a 3D around-view camera system with four cameras fitted on the front, rear and sides to offer a 360-degree view of the car, especially while parking or driving in tight conditions.
It also features an electric sunroof with anti-pinch technology, a feature that not all others in this category offer. Also available are steering-mounted controls with audio, cruise control, and instrument cluster settings and auto-tilting Outside Rear View Mirrors (ORVMs) when in reverse gear.
The Smart Powered Tailgate in the Alturas G4 enables the boot to open automatically when you stand at the rear of the vehicle for three seconds with the electronic key in your pocket. So, you don’t need to worry about how to open the boot the next time you have your hands full and need to dump stuff into your car!
The Alturas G4 has a six-speaker audio system linked to an 8” infotainment touchscreen compatible with Apple Car Play and Android Auto, along with Bluetooth, AUX and USB connectivity. It also has a 7” LCD cluster with 3 mode settings. The front two seats have Dual Zone Automatic Temperature Control (FATC) and ambient mood lighting.
Mechanically, it features a 2.2-litre 4-cylinder engine which produces 133.3 kW (178 BHP) power and 420 Nm of torque. An advanced compressor wheel lowers noise and maximizes efficiency. Equipped with a Mercedes Benz 7-speed automatic transmission, the Alturas G4 also offers features such as electronic parking brake with auto hold feature, and an immobilizer.
High on safety
Utmost care has been taken to ensure the highest levels of safety at all times. The main frame has been crafted with ultra-high strength steel with side impact beams and front crumple zones. The car has 9 airbags placed at the driver’s seat, passenger seat, driver’s knee protection, side airbags and curtain airbags. It also has an Electronic Stability Program with Traction Control, Brake Assist System (BAS), Hill Start Assist (HSA), ABD + EBD and Emergency Stop Signal, and Hill Descent Control (HDC). For the safety of children seated in the car, this model has ISOFIX mounts to fix car seats on.
The Alturas G4 is competitively priced at ₹ 26.95 lakh for the 2WD variant and ₹ 29.95 lakh for the 4WD (single price, Pan India) one; it will be sold from separate high-tech showrooms that will also have relationship managers to cater to queries from customers.
In a first, Mahindra is also introducing a premium loyalty programme called Purple Club+, where customers can earn and redeem points based on engagement with the brand.
