New Delhi: The Wadia group-owned budget airline GoAir is likely to start international services by early next year, civil aviation secretary R.N. Choubey said on Saturday.

Meanwhile, GoAir’s 20th aircraft, Airbus A320neo, landed at the Delhi airport on Monday. A domestic airline needs a 20-aircraft fleet to fly abroad, and GoAir inducted its 20th Airbus A320neo plane this month.

The airline has indicated to the ministry the regions to which it plans to fly, he said, adding that it may happen early next year.

The aviation ministry allots flying rights for airlines to fly international.

Before the new addition, GoAir’s fleet comprised 19 A320 aircrafts.

The A320neo incorporates the latest generation engine and many innovations to ensure a smooth flying experience, while reducing the carbon footprint. As a mark of its responsibility to the environment, GoAir has decided to forgo the customary water cannon salute on arrival in Delhi to avoid unnecessary wastage of water.

GoAir chief executive officer Wolfgang Prock-Schauer said last week that the airline would look at flying abroad.

“GoAir is delighted to welcome A320 NEO into its fleet. With the induction of the first of our 72 NEO aircraft on order, we have reached a fleet strength of 20 aircrafts. With this expansion we will be able to strengthen our domestic network and will also be available to fly on international routes," he had said in a statement.
