Modi writes open letter to nation on NDA’s anniversary
The Prime Minister said that the NDA government has stemmed the corruption and indecisiveness that had paralysed the country

New Delhi: On the occasion of completing one year in office, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government is working towards transforming the quality of life by improving infrastructure and services in the country.
In an open letter to the nation, he said that the government has successfully stemmed the unabated corruption and indecisiveness that had paralysed the country.
“People had been left helpless against ever climbing inflation and economic insecurity. Our government is dedicated to the poor, marginalized and those left behind. We are working towards empowering them to become our soldiers in the war against poverty," Modi said in the letter. The opposition, while objecting to the land acquisition bill in Parliament, had called the government anti-poor.
In the 2014 general election, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won a decisive mandate for the first time in the country’s history. It was also the first time in 30 years that any political party has won a clear mandate to govern the country.
“This is the first time since independence that a non-Congress party got decisive mandate. Government had restored credibility because people had lost faith in government and bureaucrats had lost faith in prime minister office," said BJP president Amit Shah at a press meet on Tuesday.
Shah said that when the NDA government, under the then prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, took office in 1998, the GDP growth was 4.4%. In six years, it was raised to 8.4%, he said.
Shah said in the 10 years of United Progressive Alliance rule, it brought it down to 4.4%. According to the old parameters, we have raised GDP growth to more than 5.7% in just one year, he said. “I believe that an increase of 1.3% growth in GDP is a very big achievement," said Shah.
The BJP president also said that corruption was the main concern of people before the elections. “Corruption was the major concern of people for 10 years. It not only shook confidence of people but also brought disrepute to the country. The BJP had promised to end corruption and there was not a single allegation against the government in the last one year," Shah said.
