New Delhi: The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday asked the special investigation team (SIT) probing the black money case to submit a status report on or before 12 May.
A bench comprising Chief Justice H.L. Dattu, and justices Madan B. Lokur and A.K. Sikri said that once they had read the status report, they would be in a position to pass appropriate orders. They specified that they wanted to do the same before SC closed for the summer.
The case will be heard next on 12 May, when the bench will also hear submissions from senior lawyer Ram Jethmalani, who is a petitioner in this case, and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy. Jethmalani said in open court that “there is a determined effort to frustrate the court proceedings”.
The case relates to a public interest litigation filed by Jethmalani in 2009 seeking the return of black money allegedly salted away by Indians in foreign banks in order to evade Indian taxes.
