New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is headed for a victory in Delhi assembly elections, as trends on the poll results show, and is almost sure of crossing the 50-plus seat tally in the assembly—something that was pulled off only by the Congress back in 1998.

Since 1993, when Delhi was assembled into 70 constituencies through delimitation, it was a two-way battle between the usual suspects (Bharatiya Janata Party, or BJP, and Congress) with the grand old party wresting power for a record 15 years starting 1998.

From 49 seats in 1993, the BJP at the time of publishing this piece has dropped down to a mere four. The Congress, meanwhile, is pulling off a disappearing trick, with possibly zero seats to take home in 2015.

It is important to note that the AAP was in minority last time around when it formed the government with just 28 seats. Now it looks all set for a 129% jump to take its tally beyond 60 seats, another record in the history books of Delhi elections.
