New Delhi: The Delhi high court has a busy day ahead of itself. It is slated to hear cases such as the ongoing share transfer dispute between Kalanithi Maran and SpiceJet, ban on fixed combination drugs and a case to determine if wrestler Sushil Kumar will participate in Olympics at Rio.
The green tribunal will hear a case of contempt brought against Sri Sri Ravi Shankar for attributing political motives to a ruling passed by it.
Kalanithi Maran drags SpiceJet to court over share transfer dispute
The high court will hear the petition brought by Kalanithi Maran and KAL Airways Pvt. Ltd over a share transfer dispute with SpiceJet, demanding that 180 million warrants redeemable as equity shares be transferred to them. Read more
The matter was brought on 11 March before Justice Manmohan Singh, who asked SpiceJet to submit to the court a draft of the proposed board resolution to be passed in favour of Maran before it passed an order directing for the board resolution to be passed within three days. Read more
After the submission of the draft resolution, the parties approached the BSE for approving the board resolution. During an earlier hearing, the court had asked BSE to apprise it of the decision taken on the issue of warrants to Kalanithi Maran and KAL Airways. Read more
Mahyco Monsanto’s trademark infringement case against Nuziveedu Seeds
Seed major Mahyo Monsanto Biotech Ltd’s plea against Nuziveedu Seeds for infringing its trademark and selling seeds beyond the period of licence will be heard on Monday. In an earlier hearing, the court had restrained Nuziveedu Seeds from selling seeds manufactured after November 2015 when the licence agreement was terminated.
The court had also appointed local commissioners to make an inventory of stocks available with Nuziveedu Seeds. Read more
Contempt plea against Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) will hear an application alleging contempt against Sri Sri Ravi Shankar for attributing political motives to a ruling by the NGT. The contempt plea brought by Manoj Misra, an environmental activist and convener of non-profit Yamuna Jiye Abhiyan, was based on a press statement made by Ravi Shankar.
In the statement published in The Times of India on 22 April, Ravi Shankar had said the tribunal’s decision to fine his Art of Living (AOL) Foundation ₹ 5 crore for allegedly causing environmental damage to the Yamuna floodplains in Delhi “was politically motivated". Read more
Drug ban
The Delhi high court will continue hearing the government defend its ban on 344 fixed dose combination (FDC) drugs. Major pharma companies have moved the court against the ban and have been granted temporary exemption by court. The court has already granted an interim stay on certain drugs and said that all cases would be heard. Read more
Wrestler Sushil Kumar seeking trial for Rio Olympics
The Delhi high court will on Tuesday hear the plea of two-time Olympic medalist, wrestler Sushil Kumar, seeking a selection trial to decide who will represent India in men’s 74 kg freestyle category at the Rio games.
The Rio Olympics Games, 2016, are scheduled to take place from 5 to 21 August. Read more
Walmart’s case against graft inquiry
The Delhi high court will hear a case by Walmart over the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) seeking to initiate criminal proceedings against the local unit of the retail giant for allegedly delaying an inquiry into possible bribery.
Walmart told the court that it had been cooperating with the inquiry even though it doesn’t believe CVC has jurisdiction over the matter. Read more
