Mumbai: Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (TCS), India’s largest software services exporter, said on Thursday that it has appointed Aarthi Subramanian as an executive director on the board of directors of the company for a period of three years.

With this appointment, the total strength of the board of directors increases to 11 directors, which include six independent directors.

Subramanian is the global head of the delivery excellence group responsible for governance of service delivery, compliance and risk management.

“TCS is keen on giving exposure to the functioning of the board to top talent as part of their leadership development. Subramanian, with over 25 years of experience across multiple industry solutions in different markets and a sharp focus on driving excellence in deploying best practices, will bring unique perspective to the board deliberations. She will benefit immensely from the exposure to a global set of directors," said N. Chandrasekaran, chief executive officer and managing director of TCS.

Subramanian holds a B.Tech degree in computer science from the National Institute Technology, Warangal and a Masters in Engineering Management from the University of Kansas in the US.

The appointment is in keeping with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) rule of having at least one woman director on the board of directors of all listed companies in the country by 1 April.

TCS had a total of 318,625 employees as of 31 December, of which 33% are women.

The announcement was made after market hours.

On Thursday, shares of TCS closed 0.37% up at 2619 apiece, while the benchmark Sensex ended trade 0.95% up at 28,930.41.
