Hyderabad: JB Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals Ltd (JBCPL) on Thursday said it will appeal against orders passed by National Green Tribunal (NGT) in January directing the closure of industrial activities at company’s bulk drugs or active pharmaceutical ingredient plant at Panoli, Gujarat.

“The Company believes it has all necessary clearances and consents to carry on its industrial activities at the said plant and is in compliance with the applicable laws," JBCPL said in a statement to stock exchanges.

NGT on Tuesday dismissed JBCPL’s review petition seeking repeal of the closure order. The tribunal on the next day however stayed the order for two months to enable JBCPL to pursue remedial actions.

In January, NGT - West Zone urged the Union government to revoke the environmental clearance given to JBCPL for its bulk drug plant located at the GIDC Panoli in Gujarat, and further ordered the company to shut down the plant in four weeks following representations from Baroda’s Paryavaran Suraksha Samiti and the People’s Union for Civil Liberties, Ankleshwar, that challenged the Centre’s circular based on which the environmental approval was granted.
