Mumbai: Mahindra Reva Electric Car Co. Ltd. will introduce its first electric car E2O on 18 March in New Delhi, company executives told reporters in Mumbai on Monday.

In March 2010, Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd, sports utility vehicle market leader, bought a controlling stake in Chetan Maini-promoted Reva Electric Car Co. Mahindra has now discontinued the Reva i. E2O is the first model to be rolled out by the new entity.

A government policy that encourages manufacturing of electric vehicles would help in the proliferation of such vehicles, said Chetan Maini, chief of strategy & technology, Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles Pvt. Ltd.

“It has helped sales in the past. I have seen that happening in Norway, where electric cars accounted for only 1% of total sales, it increased to 5% in December. It was to reach this figure in 2018, but it happened earlier."
