Agra–Gwalior electricity link faces fresh trouble
The other two links that are also facing difficulties are Kankroli-Zarda and Bhinmal-Kankroli
New Delhi: Close on the heels of electricity grid failures that left 700 million people without electricity for many hours last week, the Agra–Gwalior inter-regional link of 765 kilovolts started experiencing trouble on Monday morning.
This is the same link that had overloaded last Monday triggering the failure of the northern grid that supplies 36,000 megawatts of electricity to nine states including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.
The other two links that are also facing difficulties are Kankroli-Zarda and Bhinmal-Kankroli.
“The Agra–Gwalior inter-regional link is the problematic one which comprises of various circuits. One of these circuits started developing problems since 9am today (Monday). However, supplies to regions such as Delhi has remained unaffected till now," said a Delhi government official, requesting anonymity.
The load management functions are overseen by the state-owned Power Grid Corp. of India Ltd (PGCIL).
While a PGCIL spokesperson said that he was unaware about the development, S.K. Soonee, chief executive officer, Power System Operation Corp. Ltd (Posoco), which handles PGCIL’s power management functions, said that he would respond later.
The development took place on a day power minister Veerappa Moily has called a meeting of the chief ministers of the northern states to impress upon them the need for grid discipline to prevent overdrawing of electricity and consequent outages.
