Mumbai: Tata Motors Ltd said December sales dropped across segments.
While sales of trucks and buses fell by 45% to 25,738 units in December from 47,515 units in the year-earlier period, sales of light commercial vehicles fell by more than half to 18,079 units from 37,649 a year ago, the company said in a filing to the stock exchange on Thursday.
Sales of medium and heavy commercial vehicles also dropped 22% to 7,659 units in December from 9,866 units a year ago.
Passenger vehicles continued to bear the brunt of the slowing economy and increasing competition from foreign brands. Sales shrank 34% to 9,272 units from 14,185 units in December 2012.
Shares of Tata Motors dropped 0.79% to close at ₹ 371.95 on Thursday on the BSE while the exchange’s benchmark Sensex lost 1.19% to 20,888.33 points and the BSE Auto Index lost 0.85% to 12,170.38 points.
