New Delhi/Mumbai: The oil ministry has cancelled permits issued to Mukesh Ambani’s privately owned Reliance Gas Transportation Infrastructure Ltd (RGTIL) for laying four natural gas pipelines, saying there were inordinate delays in construction of the 2,175-km lines.

“Orders cancelling authorization issued to RGTIL for laying of four pipelines from Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh to Howrah in West Bengal, Chennai and Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu and Mangalore in Karnataka were issued last week," a person in the knowledge of the development said.

An RIL official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the contracts for the pipelines were cancelled by the ministry. The company’s legal department will advise on the next step, he said. The official added that the company didn’t see any commercial sense in building the pipelines at a time when there was paucity of natural gas in the country. PTI & Staff Writer
