New Delhi: Gautam Doshi, group managing director (MD) of Reliance Group, on Monday claimed before a Delhi court that he has been falsely implicated in the 2G (second generation) spectrum allocation case and was “not involved" in any decision related to any aspect of the telecom business.

Deposing before special CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) judge O.P. Saini, Doshi said he had no role in “any of the actions" which have been alleged in the case by the probe agency.

“I am completely at a loss to understand as to why a charge is being made out against me when I had no role whatsoever in any of the actions alleged in the case. I had no role in any business activities of the Reliance ADA Group and was not a member of any business team," he said. “My role in the group is solely that of advising on taxation and allied matters which are referred to me by the group companies," he said. Claiming that he deserved to be acquitted of the charges framed against him, Doshi said, “I deny all the allegations and state that I have always acted bona fide... I had no role whatsoever in the filing or withdrawal of applications for telecom licences or in any transfers of companies whether relating to telecom business or otherwise," he said, adding, “I wholly and completely deny the charges/allegations levelled against me as incorrect."

During the day, the court also recorded the statement of the authorised representative of Reliance Telecom Ltd, one of the accused firms in the case. The firm, through its authorised representative, denied all the allegations levelled against it by CBI. The court had earlier concluded recording of statements of Reliance Group president Surender Pipara and senior vice-president Hari Nair, both of whom are facing trial in the case which also involves former telecom minister A. Raja and DMK MP Kanimozhi. CBI, in its charge sheet, had alleged that Reliance Telecom Ltd had used Swan Telecom Pvt Ltd, an ineligible firm, as its front company to get licences and the costly radio waves.
