Sales of personal computers have been falling in recent years. Global PC shipments touched a high of 95.44 million units in the third quarter of 2011, but have been in a steady decline since, dropping to 64.78 million units in the first quarter of 2016. At the same time, global mobile phone shipments have been rising—from 172.5 million units in 2009 to 1.43 billion in 2015. India’s smartphone shipments have also been on the rise—from 2.36 million units in the first quarter of 2011 to 28.3 million units in the third quarter of 2015. Samsung Electronics Co. (26.8%), Micromax Informatics Ltd (14.1%), Lenovo Group Ltd (11.6%), Intex Technologies (India) Ltd (9.4%) and Lava International Ltd (7%) are the top 5 smartphone brands in India.
