Reliance brings premium lifestyle brand Kate Spade Newyork to India

Under the terms of the agreement, Reliance Brands will have exclusive distribution rights to the Kate Spade New York brand

Mumbai: Reliance Brands Ltd, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Group, on Wednesday announced plans to bring American company Kate Spade and Co.’s fashion brand Kate Spade New York to India through a long-term distribution and retail license agreement.

Under the terms of the agreement, Reliance Brands will have the exclusive distribution rights to the Kate Spade New York brand in the country. Kate Spade and Co. has four categories—women’s, men’s, children’s and home.

This will be the latest addition to Reliance Brands portfolio which comprises of brands like Steve Madden, Thomas Pink, Brooks Bro’s, Diesel and Super Dry. The company will establish a network of stand-alone stores across major Indian cities, starting later this year.

“Expanding into India is an important next step for Kate Spade and Co. as we continue to progress along our geographic expansion axis of growth and build global brand engagement. With India’s rapid development and increasingly aspirational consumers, we see significant growth opportunities in the region in the long term," said Craig A. Leavitt, chief executive officer of Kate Spade and Co.

“We are confident that Kate Spade New York’s strong heritage and strong design point of view will resonate with Indian consumers, bringing a new dimension to the women’s wardrobe," said Darshan Mehta, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Reliance Brands.
