The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that environmental pollution causes 12.6 million deaths worldwide each year. According to WHO’s Global Burden of Disease comparative risk assessment for 2015, air pollution exposure contributes to approximately 1.8 million premature deaths and 49 million disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) in India, ranking it among the top health concerns in the country.
